Join us for the STEAM Café this month! Tonight’s STEAM talk, “Shedding Light on Dark Matter & Dark Energy”, will be presented by Michael Dowding, senior lecturer in the South Dakota Mines Department of Physics at South Dakota Mines.
Every year during the month of October, the world celebrates the hunt for the unseen – something that scientists refer to as dark matter. Local Dark Matter Day events organized by institutions and individuals around the planet explore its mysteries and highlight the experiments that could bring us closer to solving them. Since then, Dark Matter Day has become an annual celebration with dozens of events taking place around the world.
Michael Dowding, senior lecturer in the South Dakota Mines Department of Physics, will describe from a non-technical perspective the theory behind dark matter & dark energy: why we think they exist and how we hope to prove it, along with why dark matter & dark energy are so popular in realm of science fiction. Join us as we attempt to separate science fiction from science fact!
